The waste disposal site of Netanya is a landfill used by the Municipality for the dumping of municipal waste and industrial waste.
The site was active since 1978 and officially closed in 1996.
However, there were changes even after the closure, due to piracy dumping.
The site stretches over 200 dunams, where limestone mining was conducted in the past, and the waste was subsequently buried in the pits that were opened after the limestone was mined.
The remediation of the site was divided into two main stages –
Stage 1 – which began in 2011, from the top of the waste to the level of Ben Gurion Boulevard
Stage B – From the level of Ben Gurion Boulevard to the bottom of the landfill.
The purpose of the landfill remediation is to promote the implementation of a detailed and approved construction plan N / 620 – the southern sea front
Including residential units, commerce, hotels and beaches.
