In 1997, a historic survey, land and land gas surveys and a remediation alternatives study were undertaken. These surveys are to be updated. In addition to the update, groundwater drilling should be performed.
סקר היסטורי
In the mid-1990s, an environmental study of the site was undertaken by Ecology & Environment (E&E).
Historical Survey
At the Nof Yam (Apollonia) Site, several soil surveys have been performed in the past:
During 1996-7, and environmental study was performed by Ecology & Environment (E&E) and TAHEL, aiming to determine the potential and extent of contamination on the site as a result of the activity of the factory and its facilities. The initial soil survey included a historic review of the activity on site in order to determine sources and types of potential pollutants, and soil, groundwater and free air sampling. Values for human risk on this site have been defined, according to which target values were set for site remediation.
In 2012, LDD executed an extensive soil gas survey (both active and passive) throughout the entire area of the site. Deviation from threshold values were found only at the central and southern parts of the site.
From the results of the surveys and tours conducted by ESC on the IMI NOF Yam site, 6 primary pollution foci were identified, which will be explored by the risk assessment survey.
Risk Assessment Survey
Is in advanced stages of execution.
Planning status (Tel Aviv Region): a plan for the Nof Yam (Apollonia) site was received and is being advanced through the National Committee for Planning and Building of Preferential sites for Housing.
Between the years 2012-2015, the following have been executed:
• Soil gas survey: 250 drills
• Soil survey: 1,000 drills (226 in 2015, 800 in 1997)
• Monitoring wells for groundwater: 48 wells
By the end of 2016, the following will be completed:
Complementary study (ILA):
• Completion of groundwater study
• Completion of exploration for purposes of risk assessment
• Completion of risk assessment
Remediation of acute areas (ESC):
• Specific exploration
• Review of alternatives – remediation plan
• Completion of treatment
Future actions – 2017-2018:
Remediation (ESC):
• Execution of preliminary pilot of digging one of the pollution focal points that have recently been identified, in order to study the environmental impacts in the framework of the region’s future development activities.
• Exploration of alternatives + remediation plan
• Treatment of contaminated soil.
Treatment alternatives for the Nof Yam (Apollonia) site will be presented upon the completion of the soil survey and recommendations of the Risk Assessment Survey.
