Evacuation and remediation of soil in the framework of the project are based on a government decision.
The land originates mainly from:
Evacuation of about twenty IDF army camps, to be assigned to the Israel Land Authority (ILA). This land can be used for the construction of some 50,000 housing units;
Relocation of Israel Military Industry (IMI) factories, following the privatization of the company.
Other land which the State is interested in promoting.
The evacuation involves complex processes, involving systemic hindrances and a need for close collaboration between numerous government ministries and additional factors. In addition to the need for soil treatment, additional issues must be addressed, such as transportation, sewage and planning, as well as inputs from the Antiquities Authority, Water Authority and Parks Authority.
The executive body for the Soil Remediation Project is the Environmental Services Company, and it will manage remediation of soil in evacuated army camps, retired IMI factories as well as other sites that the State is interested in promoting.
Remediation works will be executed by means of soil treatment and recycling methodologies (In/On/Ex). The work will proceed as per decisions made by a steering committee, a professional committee and under the supervision of an external company on behalf of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.
